A healthy beehive contains over 50,000 honeybees. Beeswax, like honey, is derived from the nectar of flowers. Honeybees fly 150,000 miles and visit over 10 million flowers to collect enough nectar to yield 75 pounds of honey and one pound of wax. In its original form beeswax is white, then colored various shades of yellow by different pollens collected by honeybees. The dust-like film that appears on the surface of the beeswax is called bloom. Bloom is sugar that rises to the surface of the wax.
